This page is dedicated to L.M. Klauber (b1883, d May 8, 1968) whose massive two-volume work "Rattlesnakes - Their Habits, Life Histories, and Influence on Mankind" remains the definitive work on these fascinating reptiles.
I have undertaken this project because of my own singleminded fascination with this particular group of vipers, and because of many fruitless net searches for information. The information below comes from Klauber's text, as well as from my own experience with rattlers in the field.
Attention Parents! I am currently seeking kids' reports on rattlesnakes. Cute, funny, or downright informative reports from kids of all ages are welcome. Reports will be posted on this site. If pictures are involved, mail me and I will send you my postal address. I will scan photos and return them. Please send all text in electronic format.
P.S. - Don't miss the Symposium on "Herpetology of the Californias," at the San Diego Natural History Museum on May 15th, 1998. These guys have Klauber's collection, and symposium participants will have the chance to tour the collection up-close and personal. I, unfortunately, will not be able to make it, although I plan to visit the exhibit the first week of May.
